The Order is an original Netflix series about a male character (Jack Morton) who finds himself in the middle of a war between two secret societies: The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose aka magicians vs The Knights of St. Christopher aka cool werewolves, while on his mission to avenge the death of his mother caused by his father, a mysterious figure called Edward Coventry.
The series ended in a heartbreaking twist. Just as the Order and the Knights fought together to bring down the ultimate bad guy, the Order decided to sever any chance of further alliance by wiping out the memories of the Knights. Alyssa, Jack’s main love interest, tells him she loves him before dusting him with memory pwder (damnit, Alyssa!).
A lot of viewers are polarized about the show’s ending. While it may seem logical in a sense, it’s still gutting and heartbreaking to see our beloved characters’ journey and experiences gone in the last 30 seconds of the show. However, it setups an intriguing start for a second season. Here are some theories on what will happen to season 2 of The Order.
1. Regaining memories
Most likely, the first episodes of season 2 will focus on how the werewolves will get their memory back. Despite the obfuscation powder, they are still fused with the werewolf hides which means they can still hear a ringing whenever there’s “bad magic” and transform — hence it’s likely that they’ll find themselves together sooner than later.
A popular theory on how they will regain their memories concern the werewolf hides, which are shown to keep previous knowledge of its champions.
Whether that or they find another way to get their memories back, one thing’s for sure — they’re not going to let the order get away with what they did.
2. A new werewolf
So far, the series revolved around 5 werewolves which are all members of the Knights: Silverback, Tundra, Midnight, Timber, and Greybeard. There’s also a passing mention of another missing werewolf named Alpha.
There’s a theory that we might finally see Alpha in the second season, worn by a new character perhaps. Or maybe we’ll get to see other werewolves in the community. After all, it’s not likely that these 5-6 are the only remaining ones left.
3. Renee Marand’s twin sister
Renee Marand’s unnamed twin sister (performed wonderfully by Jewel Staite) survived the first season. She escaped Jack with only scratches on her back. She’s one of the loose ends in season 1 and considering that her character is a show favorite, it’s highly likely that we’re going to see her again. If that’s the case, she might decide to team up with the knights to bring down the order, as she believes that Edward Coventry betrayed her sister and killed her. After all, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
Alternatively, she might reappear as a villain, this time playing her cards more wisely. Whatever her role will be, it’s exciting to see this strong female character again in the next season.
4. New magic users
Edward Coventry served as season 1’s main villain, but now that he’s gone, we might see another villain in the show.
The first season has done sufficient world building but there’s still a lot of areas to explore. At the beginning of the show, Vera Stone (former temple magus and currently grand magus of The Order) stressed that they are not the only people who can harness magic. Perhaps we’ll see a new organization of magic users outside the campus. Or even new mythical creatures — faeries, vampires, anything is on the table.
5. Jack and Alyssa
One of the central plots in the show is Jack and Alyssa’s relationship, but the first season ended with Alyssa choosing her ambition over love and betraying Jack by wiping away his memories.
If the screenwriters listen to reason, we’ll see Jack straight up murder Alyssa and eat her heart out or Lilith to rip her former bestie to shreds and eat her heart out. Jack may meet a new love interest or get together with someone else (there is actually enough tension between him and Lilith).
Otherwise, the screenwriters may go with the norm and we’ll see this couple get back together. At the very least, we’d like to see Alyssa wisen up and redeem herself and Jack to love her in a realistic way rather than putting her up in a pedestal and thinking she’s perfect.
6. Vade mecum infernal
The vade mecum infernal is known as the strongest incantation in the series, and it’s considered pure power itself. The protagonists successfully prevented Edward from bonding with the vade mecum infernal and Vera Stone used Nephilim Tears to remove its magical enchantment, but the last episode teased that it wasn’t completely destroyed.
Moreover, Netflix announced a season 2 by using the clip of the vade mecum infernal burning, which seems to be a message that we’ll see this item again in the future.
